FAQ

Who is Howe Green?

We are one of the world’s leading manufacturers of floor, wall and ceiling access panels.  A family owned and run business based in Ware, Hertfordshire we have been manufacturing access covers for over 30 years.  During that time we have built a reputation for premium quality products, customer care and service. We have a “can do” attitude and are recognised and respected for helping our customers solve their access problems.

When would I use a Howe Green access cover?

If you are working on a building project, indoors or outdoors, where easy and safe access is required to concealed services, such as electrical wiring and connections, data and telecommunications cabling, plumbing, drainage, heating and ventilation  and utilities.

Why would I choose a Howe Green access cover over cheaper alternatives available from competitors?

We appreciate that cost is an issue for the construction industry but we believe that Howe Green floor, wall and ceiling access covers provide excellent value for money.  If the project you are working on requires quality and reliability then you know you can count on our access covers to do the job.

Our products and reputation have evolved from our “hands on” experience of Terrazzo flooring. We designed our first floor access cover to address the problems we experienced when requiring access to services under Terrazzo flooring.  Our links to the flooring industry are long established and thousands of companies in the construction industry have benefited from our experience of manufacturing premium quality access covers.

Who uses Howe Green floor, wall and ceiling access panels and covers?

Our access panels are used by builders, flooring and tiling contractors, construction and engineering companies and they are specified for projects by architects and building services professionals.  Howe Green access panels have been installed in buildings all over the world, from a conservatory in Hertfordshire to an airport in the US to a shopping mall in Dubai.  You can even find Howe Green floor access covers in Buckingham Palace!

Are all Howe Green access covers available to order online?

No, we have only made a selection of our most popular floor, wall and ceiling access covers available to buy on line.  If you would like to see the full range of Howe Green access covers, linear drainage products and entrance matting please visit  www.howegreen.com.

Are your products environmentally friendly?

At Howe Green we always try to use materials that are capable of being recycled; we review our production processes to ensure they have minimal environmental impact and we advise our customers on the responsible disposal of our products once they reach the end of the life cycle. In summer 2012 we also had Photovoltaic panels (PV) installed on the roof of our factory to generate electricity and save on CO2 emissions.

Floor Access Covers

What is a recessed access cover?

A recessed access cover allows any type of flooring to be fitted flush into the access cover to provide an aesthetically pleasing and safe finish whilst providing easy access to concealed services.

At Howe Green we have a range of access covers to accommodate all types of hard flooring including ceramic tiles, marble, terrazzo, concrete, resin, wood and parquet floors.

If you require access covers for flexible flooring such as vinyl, linoleum, rubber and some carpets please have a look at the Visedge Series on www.howegreen.com.

What is the difference between a double seal and top edge seal on an access cover?

A double seal on an access cover offers the highest levels of hygiene and security and should be chosen for environments where these factors are critical. A top edge seal helps prevent dirt, grout or grinding waste ingress which in turn prevents an access cover becoming stuck in position, particularly where it is not opened on a regular basis.

Double seals are standard on the Light Duty and Medium Duty floor access covers.

Can all your floor access covers be used internally and externally?

The majority of our floor access covers are either light duty, which can be used for pedestrian traffic or medium duty for vehicle traffic, up to 5 tonne pneumatic wheel load.

If you require a heavy duty floor access cover please have a look at the 1050 Series on www.howegreen.com.

How easy is it to install a Howe Green floor access cover?

Our floor access covers have been designed to be easy to install with the minimum of disruption.  Read our simple to follow Installation Guide or check out our Floor Access Installation Video to see just how easy installation is.

What is a clear opening as referred to in the product descriptions?

The clear opening is the size of the pit that the access cover is above. The overall size of the cover has to be larger than the pit.  See the Access Covers Dimensions Guide for more information.
